For the third time, on January 9, 2016, an elimination tournament for the European Championship in the sport of Oba Boxing (Oba Boksu), which was developed only three years ago, took place in Antalya.
The Oba-Boksu Association is a member of the IAF (International Allstyle Kickboxing Federation), whose president is Dr. Şakir Yavuz. He attended the event together with IAF Secretary General Andreas Thoma and Asia President Andreas de Roover.
The fighting was broadcast live as part of a TV program on the Turkish channel akdeniz.tv. The response to the event was very high, especially since it is still a young sport, but it has a great future in the worldwide Turkish community. Worldwide, at least 180 million people speak Turkish or related Turkic languages.
The federation expects this martial art to become very popular in these regions.
Oba Boxing is open to athletes from all martial arts and integrates classic old Turkish techniques into a new fighting style.
The event was organized by Talat Ayhan, the founder and president of the Turkish Oba Boksu Association and vice president of the IAF.
